About Us
Pablo Casals MS 181 is focused on developing the whole child through a balance of academic and enrichment opportunities. M.S. 181 offers two outstanding programs. Our Community Service program is deeply embedded in a rigorous curriculum and the fundamental ideologies of 21st Century Learning. Engaging activities in which investigating, problem solving, and students are at the center of learning. All students are provided with their own device and participate in a two-year, four course STEM program, in which they cycle through two unique courses each year. These courses guide students through hands-on, project-based learning experiences using technology. Students apply computer coding skills to program flying drones, build objects using 3D printing, and create working robots. All students participate in a special 3-year Mathematics and Science program. This culminates with all grade 8 students being offered the opportunity to participate in the Algebra 1 course. Students in the honors program participate in the U.S. History and Biology courses. These accelerated courses culminate with taking Regents exams and earning high school credit in their eighth-grade year. M.S. 181 believes that it is essential for our students to give back and, therefore, all children at our school are involved in supporting our community and making a difference in the lives of others. Students develop and lead an array of community service projects within the school, such as Toy Drives, Autism Awareness activities, fundraising for cancer research, and kindness campaigns. A dress code is in place at M.S. 181. Each grade level is assigned a specific polo shirt color to wear.

Our Mission
In partnership with the community and parents, MS 181 is dedicated to empowering our students with the social and academic skills needed to succeed in a culturally diverse society.

MS 181 will create a fun, supportive, nurturing environment where a focus on Intellectual Engagement (A.C.T.I.V.E.) drives student-centered learning that is articulated and supported by all stakeholders through Clear Expectations. Students will participate in activities that are both cognitively engaging and foster rich student discussion, as illustrated by classrooms where students respond to and extend each other’s thinking, crafting questions to help one another deepen and elaborate their thoughts. As a result, all students will be high school-ready and college-prepared.

Principal’s Message
 Dear 181 Families,

As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and dedication. Your involvement and encouragement have been integral to our students' success and well-being throughout this academic year. It’s hard to believe we have less than 40 school days remaining until the 2025-2026 school year draws to a close. I am grateful for the collaborative spirit that has been displayed by students, parents, and staff alike.

We have an exciting array of events planned for the remainder of May and June, celebrating the achievements and talents of our students. Our annual Culinary Banquet will take place on Wednesday, May 20th. This event is by invitation only and promises to be a delightful showcase of our students' culinary skills. Following this, our Family STEM Night is scheduled for May 21st at 5:30 p.m. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for families to engage with interactive exhibits and activities that highlight the innovative learning happening in our classrooms. Additionally, our grade 6 students will embark on an educational adventure to the Maritime Aquarium on May 28th, where they will explore marine life and learn about ocean conservation.

June is a particularly significant month as we celebrate our graduating class. On June 3rd, the 8th grade students will enjoy a memorable senior trip to Holiday Hills, a day filled with fun and camaraderie. The excitement continues with the Senior Dance on June 10th at Eastwood Manor, a special evening to honor our graduates (please refer to emails and the letter sent home for more details). Graduation rehearsals are scheduled for June 11th and June 15th, ensuring our students are prepared for the grand occasion. We are also thrilled to commemorate our students' achievements during our Awards Night on June 16th where select students from grades 6 and 7 will be recognized for academic achievements. Finally, we will celebrate our grade 8 students at the Graduation Ceremony on June 25th in the Truman High School auditorium.

In addition, our grade 8 students will be undertaking Regents Exams as follows:
- Algebra 1: June 17 (All Grade 8 students)
- Biology: June 18th (Honors Class students)
- Spanish Proficiency: June 22nd (Select Students)
- US History: June 23rd (Honors Class students)
It is imperative that students arrive on time, as all exams commence sharply at 8:30 a.m.

Please be reminded that there will be early dismissals on Friday, May 22nd, Friday, June 12th, and Friday, June 26th (last day of school).

Once again, thank you for being an essential part of our community. We look forward to celebrating these closing moments of the school year with you all.
